Ever since ancient times, since the age of gods and monsters, a promise or a vow has always been thought to be sacred. A pact between two or more humans. Never to be broken nor betrayed. No one can change it. Not even the gods.
A vow was usually spoken for important matters, as the price for breaking one would be either death or a curse that would make you prefer death. No one wants to pay such a heavy price.
So, why is it that I'm standing here with this fool? Leah narrowed her eyes towards the boy before her, her lips twitching downwards in annoyance. "Oliver. You do realize the price to pay should you ever break such a sacred thing?"
The boy before her, Oliver, flinched when he heard her annoyance laced words. He scratched the back of his head nervously, "I- Yes, I do. But, I... I just want to make sure you know that I'm serious about us, Leah! This vow will make sure that I'll never betray you!" He lifts his eyes, before averting them again when he saw those gorgeously calculating eyes of hers that he had fallen for since the first time they met.
Leah lifts an eyebrow at his statement, crossing her arms. "Are you going?" Her brown eyes had turned a shade deeper, almost resembling black. Oliver stammered out a weak 'what' seeing them, swallowing down his nervousness. He wasn't a coward, but the aura of intimidation of a soon to be the youngest general of the empire was heavily domineering. "Are you going to betray me, Finley?"
Oliver flinched again, the mention of his family's name sent shivers down his spine. "No! Of course not! But, I- It's just-" He sighed at his jumbled words, taking a deep breath to calm himself down. "I'm jealous okay?"
Leah blinks in surprise at his words. "Of what? Of me?"
He shook his head quickly. "No. Of the people around you! Leah, you're so beautiful. You're also smart and strong. You're going to be the next and the youngest general of the empire! I'm scared okay? What if you found someone better than me in the army? What if you finally thought that I'm useless? What if you fell for someone better than me? I-"
Leah cut off his words with a kiss, her lips softly touching his for a moment, one of her hands gently touching his cheek to hold him, before pulling away her forehead touching his. Her eyebrows scrunch momentarily in annoyance at the slight height difference between them. "Oliver," She noticed he flinched again, her empty hand clenched tightly at the sight. Was she that scary to him?
"Oliver, I would never leave you." She looked into his eyes, her tone soft and comforting. "I could and would never leave you. Why can't you trust me on this?"
"I do! I do trust you, Leah! But, I-" Oliver choked up his words, tears starting to appear. "I'm just scared one day I would wake up and realized this was all a dream. I mean, how can someone like you, a young prodigy, want to be with someone like me? Everyone told me that you're with me because you pity me. A-and, I just... I don't know what to do with myself. I want to change, to be someone worthy of you, Leah. But, I'm just... me."
