Bloomed Flower Place

Pebiano Subagja
Chapter #11

The Spark of Hope

My voice quivered in the silent, stifling air as I murmured to myself, "I... I can't stop him." As we advanced into the flower field, the weight of the earth seemed to be pulling us back with each step.

"I don't want to go back. I just want to find Aunt May!" My mind was filled with a whirlwind of fear and regret.

It appeared like all my fighting and trying to get away from the monsters had been for nothing. It was as if I were circling the nightmare in an aimless pursuit of escape. However, something occurred before we could even get to the flower field.

Suddenly, the boy who ran next to me, who was my sole remaining ally, passed out. A horrible thud, like a death knell, resounded in my ears as his corpse struck the ground. Oh no! Absolutely not! My heart was thumping in my chest as I let out a screaming.

I hastened to his side and wildly shook his delicate frame in an attempt to jolt him awake. "Stand up! Urge you, stand up!"

Except he remained motionless. An eerie pallor was gradually enveloping his features, and his face was unusually pale. His eyes twitched in agony, and his lips were chapped. "No, no, no, this can't be happening!" I put my hand on his chest in a frantic attempt to detect a pulse, but alas, there was none. My voice cracked as I sobbed uncontrollably.

It appeared as if he were gasping for air; his breaths were irregular and shallow. "It hurts... It hurts so much..." He rasped painfully through every word, his voice barely above a whisper. The look of terror in his eyes terrified me.

The world seemed to collapse upon me. "No way... I couldn't bear to lose him either," I thought as my eyesight became hazy from crying. "I must save him. I must!"

Yet the terrible gravity of the situation became clear as I surveyed my surroundings. The creatures were drawing nearer. These were the same sick beings that had pursued us in the past; now they lurked in the shadows, waiting for their chance to attack. As my heart rate increased, I thought, "They're coming." They're going to follow me. There's no way I can make things better.

As the sound of hideous legs skittering neared, the earth quivered under my feet. As I held the boy's lifeless body close to mine, I muttered, "I—I can't die here. I won’t let them take us."

I lifted him up, my arms quivering from the exertion, using all the strength that remained in me. In my haste to get to the flower field—the one location that had ever offered me refuge—I staggered ahead. "Please, please, let us reach our destination," I pleaded in a low voice, my body cries out in opposition.
