Chapter #3

Tell Me about Your Dad

The Pegasus Academy stood as a testament to human ingenuity in the midst of the barren Martian landscape. Its exterior was a marvel of architecture, characterized by sleek lines, gleaming surfaces, and transparent panels that allowed natural light to filter into the interior spaces. The main academic building, along with two dormitories—one for males and one for females—was the focal points of the academy complex.

The main academic building was a towering structure that seemed to defy gravity, its foundation barely touching the Martian soil below. Supported by advanced anti-gravity technology, the building appeared to float above the ground. Its exterior was clad in metallic panels of varying shades, creating an iridescent sheen that shimmered in the Martian sunlight.

As one approached the main entrance, they were greeted by sweeping curves and geometric patterns that adorned the building's facade, hinting at the cutting-edge research and innovation taking place within its walls. Large windows offered glimpses into state-of-the-art laboratories, lecture halls, and collaborative workspaces where Candidates engaged in the pursuit of knowledge.

Flanking the main academic building were the two dormitories, each designed to provide comfortable living spaces for the academy's candidates. The dormitories mirrored the sleek aesthetic of the main building, with smooth lines and minimalist design elements. Despite their modern appearance, they blended harmoniously with the surrounding Martian landscape, their translucent walls allowing residents to enjoy panoramic views of the stark terrain beyond.

In the female dormitory on the left wing of the Pegasus Academy, a sense of tranquility and modernity enveloped the space. The interior seamlessly blended minimalist design with functionality, creating a welcoming atmosphere for its residents. The hallway leading from the entrance was illuminated by soft, diffused lighting, casting a gentle glow on the sleek metallic walls. Along the corridor, large transparent panels offered views of the Martian landscape outside, providing a connection to the surrounding environment.

In each room, there was a cozy yet spacious retreat designed for comfort and productivity. The room featured clean lines and minimalist furnishings, with a comfortable bed positioned against one wall. Large windows allowed natural light to flood the space during the day, offering panoramic views of the Martian terrain beyond. The room was equipped with modern amenities to meet the needs of the residents, including a compact desk for study or work, storage units discreetly integrated into the walls, and ambient lighting that could be adjusted according to personal preference. In one of these rooms, Eve remained awake despite having gone through a day filled with various activities.

Eve's brow furrowed, her eyes locked on the tablet screen as her fingers pressed the buttons. The faint glow illuminated her focused expression as she navigated through things. After a moment, she fell silent, her mind racing with calculations and analysis, carefully observing the numbers displayed on the tablet screen.

"He was right, that was not even close," murmured Eve, while propping her chin with her hand and tapping her fingers on her cheek.

"What are you up to at this hour?" A short, blonde woman peered over Eve's shoulder. "Quantum physics, huh?"

Eve jolted, then turned around. "Phew ... you startled me, Grace."

Grace Marcie smiled as she walked over to her bed and flopped down onto it. "The subject I hate the most. But I'm curious about you guys, who both seem to like it. You know, even in pilot class, I often see Justin studying quantum physics during break time."

"Yeah, I know. It seems like my dad's blood runs through both of us," Eve smiled.

"Is your dad a scientist? Wait a second, I think I've heard of a scientist named Wilson, but ...." Grace rolled her eyes upward. "Argh! My memory sucks, I really can't recall it clearly!"

Eve looked panicked, then spoke hesitantly, "No, my dad isn't a scientist. Liking quantum physics doesn't make someone a scientist, right?!"

Grace lifted herself halfway up and propped her weight on one hand, just to observe Eve. "So, what does your dad do, and why don't you ever talk about your parents?"

"Just a regular employee," Grace quickly placed the tablet on the nightstand, then rolled over and pulled the blanket. "I'm tired, and I want to sleep now."
