Chapter #9

Two Countries, One Plan

“Two weddings. One chaos. Zero regrets.”

The news of their engagement spread like fire. On the Irish side, Sharon's phone was flooded with congratulations from relatives, and Andrea was already designing the hashtag #CalandPatGetHitched. On the German side, Patricia's parents received the news with a more structured happiness. Her father immediately asked, "Have you two set up a joint pension plan yet?" while her mother worried, "But in which country will my grandchildren be raised?"

And from there, the delightful chaos began. The first and biggest question: where would the wedding be held? After a long debate involving time zones, school holidays, and relative availability, they reached a diplomatic compromise: an intimate and sacred ceremony in Ireland, followed by a more relaxed celebratory party in Germany a month later.

Two countries. Two events. Double the headache.

Patricia soon realized that planning a wedding with the Corr family was no simple matter. One evening, she tried to explain a German wedding tradition to them over a video call.

"So," Patricia said carefully, "there's a tradition called Baumstamm sägen. The bride and groom have to saw a log together in front of the guests."

There was a moment of silence on the screen. The four faces of The Corrs stared back at her, confused.

"Sawing... a log?" Caroline repeated, trying to make sure she'd heard correctly.

"Yes," said Patricia. "It symbolizes teamwork and how we will overcome our first obstacle as a married couple."

Jim leaned forward, his eyes narrowing with serious interest. "What kind of saw? A two-man handsaw or a chainsaw?"
